Is there anything else you would like to tell us about your experience?- It seems common for quotes to specify "included cold, hot and gas piping" up to a standard distance, even when the actual distance could have been measured during on site quotation. The per meter over length charge does not apply because it is longer than their maximum, and lead to hefty completion charges (eg $1200) for the extra installation cost for gas piping. This should have been noted during site visit and shown in the quotation. - It was a problem that the person quoting didn't pick up the fact that both the existing cold water and gas piping was smaller than is required by the system sold, and hence lead to extra installation costs. There seemed to be a knowledge gap between what is required to be done by the plumber in the plumbing regs, the unit being quoted and the people who quote the job. - My calculations shows that payback period when compared with a 11 year old 3 star gas storage system to be about 15 years. Yet no manufacturer is willing to put their warranty on components of the system as anything past 5 years. Since it is going to cost much more over time, the only reason to do this is to feel good about environment. - It is probably not worth it to upgrade existing townhouse dwellings that have difficult piping access. It makes much more sense on new constructions. Also, crane lifts to get units to second storey roofs are quite expensive ($600).
